The Plano, located in the municipality of Sax, north of the town, has critical conditions of aridity and salinity that make it a unique place for its ecological features. Almost all of its surface is occupied by Aleppo pine, which thanks to its great strength and adaptability manages to survive with difficulty in this environment, originating a curious phenomenon. The trees were planted in the 50s of the twentieth century, so many of them have an approximate age of more than half a century. However, its appearance corresponds to trees of much younger age, due to the adverse weather conditions, which have caused a very slow growth. In some areas, the conditions are so extreme that pine trees can not even develop, as in the case of La Hoya or albardinar, where the only species capable of thriving is the albardín, which is very resistant to the aridity and salinity of soils. In other cases, the presence of limestone hills and soils rich in gypsum determine the appearance of plant species adapted to these environments, such as black hawthorn or soapwort grass. This diversity makes El Plano a unique place, where the fauna finds shelter, food and water, since an artificial pond has been created as an aid. We can see here mammals like the rabbit, squirrels, urchins or foxes, some reptiles like the ocellated lizard and birds like the goldfinch, the greenfinch, the wood pigeon, thrushes, kestrels, etc. All this natural wealth, together with the "flat" relief, invites you to visit and discover this beautiful Natural Area. Infrastructures The Plano has a wide range of recreational equipment: - Recreational area with tables, fountains, barbecues, woodcutters, sinks ... - Kiosk -bar. Open weekends and holidays. - Toilets with showers, including toilet for the disabled. - Childish games. - Regulated camping area. - Parking lots. With places for the disabled There is a circular route, of low difficulty, that runs through it. It is perfectly signposted and is equipped with didactic panels to help better understand this particular ecosystem. This Natural Area and its equipment is mainly dedicated to recreational use, with the facilities being open: toilets, barbecues, kiosk-bar on weekends and holidays, although the tables in the recreational area can be used freely all year round. Schedule - Winter: from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Summer: from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Barbecue service The barbecues open at the same time as the area, although its opening depends on the existing level of forest fire risk, which is decreed by the Generalitat Valenciana. If this is extreme (level 3) or extraordinary, it can not be opened, and it can even be closed without prior notice if it is decreed. To know the level of emergency, you can consult the website www.112cv.gva.es/incendios-forestales. Camping The camping area is available every weekend of the year and every day in summer, from June 15 to September 15, previous online booking on this page (by clicking on the reservation banner). Game of the jets. In operation the summer months with the following schedule: - From Monday to Friday: afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Saturdays and Sundays: Mornings from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The game makes a technical stop 10 minutes every hour. Construction related to the "Hell plant" that served to retain the water and divert it through a waterway to this hydroelectric power plant. It is one of the points to observe in the Serpis Greenway at Lorcha, along with the old train station, the plant itself and many abandoned places and the nature that has completely enveloped them.
Throughout history, a varied and suggestive archaeological and monumental heritage has been created along the Tarafa River, the most significant samples of which are distributed along the stretch of channel between the Hondo de las Fuentes and the Minera de Barrenas. They are just 3 kilometers in which they are counted, as if it were an open-air museum, the results of the many efforts that our ancestors had to make to take advantage of the last drop of Tarafa water. In the territory where we find the Tarafa river, of semi-arid nature, the presence of water courses of a temporary or permanent nature has an important effect on the landscape, since in these enclaves we find deep and humid soils that allow the development of exuberant plant formations like the olmedas and alamedas. The use of its springs favored the existence of three irrigated orchards, at least since the Middle Ages: Aljau, Fauquí and Huerta Mayor. To this period we owe the planning and construction of the hydraulic systems necessary to collect and distribute the water for the existing lands on both sides of the channel. To this end, small catchments were built that retained these waters, elevated them and diverted them, taking them through an extensive network of ditches several kilometers away. This activity has left an imprint on the land that still lasts, and that we can still contemplate when we walk along the river and its surroundings. We will find the remains of these dams, ditches and up to three aqueducts mark this patrimonial route along the urban park of the Tarafa River. The first of them, the Iron Channel, a magnificent example of iron architecture built in 1890. Or the aqueduct of Perceval, rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century with a solid architecture and perfectly integrated into its environment. And the last one, the one in the Acequia de la Huerta Mayor, built in the 19th century. Walking along the river we will discover drainage galleries dug in its bed to favor the water coming out of the springs, like those of the rafica or the Mine of Barrenas. Also remains of laundries such as the Hondo de las Fuentes or the house of the Rafica; or ruins of mills such as Mindán, built in 1844, which tell us about traditional activities that have already disappeared. And we will pass under the bridge of the Bath, reconstructed in 1850 next to a low medieval castle, that of the Aljau.
The Municipal Natural Area of Los Algezares is declared by Decree 167/2013, of October 31, of the Consell de la Generalitat Valenciana. This protected area has some 507 hectares that extend into the easternmost sector of the municipality of Aspe, around the Vinalopó River, bordering Elche and Monforte del Cid. The territorial scope extends, from north to south, through the landscapes of "El Rabosero", "El Río", "La Coca", "La Temerosa", "Los Barrancos", "Sierra del Tabayá" and "El Pantano" . This enclave treasures interesting natural, historical and cultural elements that make its conservation obligatory. The environment presents a great variety of materials, among which clays, marls and plasters stand out. These despicable rocks, subjected to torrential rains, generate a totally undermined landscape, where ravines predominate. The mountain supports a desert-like scrub known as spine, with a wide variety of shrubs accompanied by esparto grass and other herbaceous plants. This landscape is shared with olive trees, carob trees and reforestation of Aleppo pine. The Vinalopó River and its ravines have other species: as reed, oleander or tamarisk. On the other hand, the gypsum conditions the development of the gypsícolas tomillares. In addition, it has a great historical value, contains a multitude of archaeological remains and ethnological infrastructures among which stand out the marsh itself and the Castle of the River, declared of cultural interest. There are also remains of old flour mills that appear along the entire Vinalopó river bed, work houses or the important water pipes that extend throughout the area, some of the eighteenth century. The fauna has a wide representation, for example, common frog, corridor toad and even viperine snake, are present thanks to the water. Other common reptiles are the ladder snake or the ocellated lizard. The birds have raptors like the buzzard or the owl; although, there are other smaller ones, among them the coalfish, the reed warbler or the real whistle; The redfish and the stilts are the easiest waterfowl to observe in the sheets of water. Mammals are elusive and nocturnal, although rabbit observations are frequent during the day. In addition, this protected area contains numerous historical elements that, together with the natural heritage described, make Los Algezares a place of enormous importance from a recreational, scientific and educational point of view. The network of approved paths of small route and the different paths and paths existing in the area allow to enjoy this wealth in a responsible manner and compatible with its proper conservation.
Located in the municipality of Castalla, the 126 Ha. Another area worth visiting in the L´Aigüera Park, designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill. It is a long green park in neoclassical style, separating the old quarter from the area of more recent construction. The two amphitheaters are used for shows and cultural events mainly in summer. The park ends at the Bullring and at a fairground site where attractions are set up for the many 'fiestas'.
El Clot de Galvany is a Municipal Natural Area located in the rural areas of El Altet and Los Balsares within the municipality of Elche, Alicante. Given its great environmental value has been declared in addition to Municipal Natural Area, Biological Station, Site of Community Interest (LIC) and Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) on a large part of its surface. In its 366.31 hectares, it is possible to differentiate several ecosystems in which there is great diversity, both of flora and fauna, of high biological value due to its scarcity and degree of threat. You can also find fossil outcrops and geological formations of great interest. In addition there are elements of the archaeological and ethnographic heritage. It is an endorheic basin surrounded by a set of small elevations and closed to the sea by a coastal dune cord. In this physical environment, diverse ecosystems and ecotones converge, that is, spaces of transition between ecosystems, which generate a great biological diversity. Despite semi-arid and climatic conditions (thermo-Mediterranean), there is a very small space in which there is great geological deviry, an important variety of soils, a great biodiversity and a rich paleontological, geological and anthropic heritage.
