Sea and mountain The Berber pirates attacked the coasts of the Mediterranean burning houses and taking as slaves their inhabitants. This is the origin of the watchtowers that run along the coast of Alicante and the reason that Finestrat has a segment of coastline, known as La Cala, since they gave it these lands for contributing to the defense of the coast. This historical fact, together with its proximity to the impressive massive mass of the Puig Campana, gives uniqueness to the quiet village of Finestrat. Hence, it defines itself as "Sea and mountain". Nowadays it is a city that combines agriculture with services and tourism. The village preserves the typical Mediterranean villages and allows for a relaxing walk to its church or to the Ermita del Remedio, built on the old Arab castle, a magnificent watchtower to contemplate the Marina Baixa.
